Skyler Yakes of Rushville and Senior at Sheridan High School will be representing Fairfield County as a State Finalist at The Distinguished Young Women of Ohio Scholarship Program held on February 25, 2018, in Mount Vernon, Ohio.



Skyler was selected from contestants across the state of Ohio who competed in a preliminary program in November 2017. Contestants competed in the areas of: Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%) 17 Ohio high school senior girls were selected to compete at the state level and will arrive in Mount Vernon on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.



Skyler is active in her school and community as a Scholar Athlete, Secretary of the National Honor Society, member of Student Council and the Cross Country team. She is also an Actress in the School Play and a Competitive Dancer.  Skyler graduates with Honors in May with a 4.125 GPA and 3rd in her class.



She will continue her formal education in the fall at the University of South Carolina majoring in Forensic Anthropology. She is the daughter of Jeff and Heather Yakes and sister to Hunter Yakes of Rushville, OH. She is the granddaughter to Mark and Ellen Ricketts of Thornville, OH and Frank and Dorothy Yakes of Prudenville, MI.


The mission of Distinguished Young Women is to positively impact the lives of young women by providing a transformative experience that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent.
