The first grading period has come to an end and our students have once again excelled and exceeded expectations. I have been fortunate enough to tour the district to observe a variety of learning activities and I have been left amazed by our students' and staff's energy and focus when learning new concepts and sharing ideas! As parents, grandparents, and guardians I encourage you to go beyond asking your child, "how was your day at school", and instead ask them to share with you "what they learned at school each day". I think you may be pleasantly surprised by the responses you might receive! You can see many of these learning activities and other important announcements by following me on twitter @perkinsNLSD.
This first 9 weeks of school has been filled with student accomplishments and team successes as evidenced by our MVL Championship Volleyball and Boys Cross Country Teams, as well as outstanding performances by all of our teams, marching band, and various clubs. There are so many activities available to our students, as we know that participation in them helps our students become well rounded individuals. I would like to encourage our students to experience some of the opportunities available by reaching out to club advisors or staff that may help them pick one that they enjoy.
You may see construction going on around the district as we are conducting a lighting upgrade in order to reduce energy cost. Those savings are being used to upgrade our security cameras and devices, provide improved heating and cooling operations, and to upgrade our technology infrastructure in order to ensure our staff and students have access to the resources that they need. Additionally, a roofing project will be completed throughout the year and into next summer at the high school. This roof has leaked since its construction and through advocacy and documentation, the district has convinced the Ohio Facilities Commission to pay for 80% of the replacement. This is exciting news, to say the least!
Our newsletter is filled with information that highlights the achievements of our students and staff, as well as upcoming events that I think all community members would enjoy. There are few things that feed the soul better than watching our youth share their talents and learning. Please visit our website to find activities or events of interest. You can also view some of our recent videos that highlight why being a General is so incredible!
Thank you, on behalf of all of our students and staff, for your continued support of our schools, and for helping to make this community such a great place for students to grow and learn.
Yours in Education,
